People have been taught to or thought of the idea to bury valuables since the beginning of time. Small hidden safes have become popular over the years and their uses have varied widely. This is not a new idea, but the techniques and tools have dramatically changed.
At least 2 or 3 times a year a story surfaces about someone finding a cache of Roman coins or some other treasure buried in their back yard. We are not only talking about ancient Europe either, people find buried treasures in America all the time. That stuff did not get there by itself, and it may not be in hidden safes, but it does prove how effective it is to bury valuables for safe keeping.
